Panic Attacks and Anxiety
What can cause anxiety and panic attacks?
Research shows that many types of anxiety can be related to an imbalance in brainwave distribution. Specifically, if there are too many Beta (High Frequency) brainwaves on the right side of the brain, anxiety can frequently be the result.
Beta brainwaves are typically present when you are thinking cognitively, however an excess of them on the right side of the brain can be directly related to anxiety and panic attacks.
A proven approach
At Total Health Neurofeedback, first we will measure your brainwave output with a computerized qEEG (Quantitative Electroencephalogram). In use since 1924, this is a proven technology that allows us to accurately measure and analyze the brainwave balance in each area of the brain. If your anxiety and panic attacks are the result of Beta brainwave imbalances, this test will allow us to determine that.
Once the qEEG is done, we will create a customized training protocol designed to correct the measured imbalances.
A successful outcome
“In just a couple of months, neurofeedback has improved everything. I had such severe anxiety that it interfered with my ability to live normally, and I was convinced that nothing would help. I was skeptical about how much this would improve my well-being, but the results are great!
The staff are all wonderful and helped me understand the process of neurofeedback training fully. I am now living and working with a new and happy brain!” Kim M
How does neurofeedback training work?
The actual training is both relaxing and enjoyable. All you need to do is sit back, relax and watch a movie or video that you pick yourself. While you train, we will monitor your brainwave output in real-time using two small sensors on your scalp.
If you get those anxious thoughts or feelings, our sensors will measure that as too much Beta brainwave energy. When this happens, the movie dims and the sound will decrease slightly. This “feedback” happens many times a minute. Over time this helps your brain to develop new, more efficient neural connections that are more balanced. The result – no more panic attacks!
The improvements are long-term
Known as “operant conditioning” the process used in neurofeedback training is fully natural. In fact, you use it every time you learn a new skill, such as swimming, or how to ride a bicycle. When you first learned, it took practice and repetition to master the new activity properly. However, once your brain developed the needed neural connections to allow you to ride, that skill remains for you to use long after you last rode a bike.
The new, healthier neural pathways developed in neurofeedback are the same – they remain for you to access whenever you want, for a long-term solution to the anxiety and panic attack symptoms.
